Welcome – Croeso

Welcome to our website. This site will continue to develop and the members only section is still under construction.  We hope you will find much of interest.

Socialist Health Association exists to promote socialist policies for the National Health Service of the UK. It is affiliated to the Labour Party. Membership is open to all who support these ideals.

The Socialist Health Association is a campaigning membership organisation. We promote health and well-being and the eradication of inequalities through the application of socialist principles to society and government. We believe that these objectives can best be achieved through collective rather than individual action. To join please complete this membership form.

How is it run?

The SHA in the UK operates through it’s Central Council which is elected annually by the membership. SHA Scotland and SHA Cymru Wales operate on a devolved basis with their own officers. SHA Cymru Wales has devolved responsibility for creating policies relevant to Wales and for establishing productive relationships with Welsh Government, the Welsh Labour Party, healthcare professions in Wales, relevant social care services and organisations representing service users and others. SHA Cymru Wales has a small executive (unpaid) team of Chair: Alison Scouller, Secretary: Linda Lewis, Assistant Secretary: Tony Beddow & Treasurer: Sue Thomas. Wales currently has three members on Central Council, as of right on this body, directly elected at the Wales AGM. Alison Scouller our Chair, Linda Lewis our Secretary and David Llewellyn Davies hold those places. In addition, Dr Brian Gibbons and Tony Beddow were elected via a national ballot of all members.
